For several years there has been a grey area surrounding whether individuals are engaged on an employed or a self employed basis. The tax treatment for self employed individuals is generally more favourable than that of employment, however workers have more rights when they are employed.

Autumn Statement 2016 – Key Tax Measures
In the Chancellor's Autumn Statement, as anticipated, there were no major changes announced. Philip Hammond confirmed that this would be the last Autumn Statement, with a Budget in the Spring, followed by Autumn Budgets and a Spring review going forwards.

The introduction of Universal Credits nationwide has been delayed from the original timetable of all claimants being on Universal Credits by 2017. The new timetable is such that existing claimants of Tax Credits will be merged onto Universal Credits between July 2019 and March 2022.
